Fireside chat: Building trust in carbon markets: Why governments matter

Clear and consistent policy direction is key to market confidence. This conversation will examine how coordinated government action can unlock investment, enhance market integrity, and scale up carbon projects aligned with national and global climate goals. Speakers will reflect on recent industry calls for government leadership and pathways to rebuild trust and accelerate climate impact.

PLENARY 3: Removals, reductions & avoidance

As demand for high-integrity carbon credits grows, removals are increasingly perceived as the gold standard, while avoidance credits face heightened scrutiny particularly around additionality. This distinction risks oversimplifying real-world climate solutions and diverting investment from high-impact avoidance projects including forest conservation in countries with rich natural carbon sinks. In this session, experts will unpack integrity best practice and explore how market guidance can support all credible pathways to mitigate climate impacts.

PLENARY 6: Turning climate ambition into investable action

Achieving ambitious climate goals depends on mobilising public and private finance to scale nature- and technology-based solutions. This session will explore the barriers project developers face in securing capital amid shifting geopolitical and market conditions. Expert panellists will share practical strategies to bridge financing gaps, from structuring bankable projects and securing offtake agreements to derisking investments through mechanisms such as blended finance and insurance-backed credits.

11:00am – 11.30am: Morning Tea

PLENARY 7: Nature-based climate solutions in the Asia Pacific

The Asia Pacific region holds immense potential for nature-based solutions that address climate change, biodiversity loss, and sustainable development. Despite this, private sector investment remains limited due to challenges such as policy uncertainty, underdeveloped markets, and capacity constraints. This session will delve into strategies to overcome these barriers and explore opportunities to scale high-integrity nature-based projects that deliver measurable climate and community outcomes across the region.
