The Burns Carbon Project aims to regenerate permanent native forest using in-situ seed sources under the Human Induced Regeneration (HIR) carbon farming methodology. Located 120-kilometres south of Charleville in South-West Queensland, the project sits atop Ardgour Station spanning 8,200 hectares.

A former sheep station, Ardgour was destocked in 2016 following severe drought. It was acquired in 2022 by Corporate Carbon Group, who recognised the potential for regeneration. In the same year, Ardgour Station was declared a nature refuge through the Queensland Government’s NatureAssist program, which formalised a conservation agreement supporting long-term ecological and cultural heritage protection and sustainable land management.

Alongside emissions reduction, the conservation activities deliver a range of environmental and social benefits. For example, conducting comprehensive ecological and cultural heritage surveys of land has improved understanding of its natural and cultural values and created employment and contract opportunities for local communities. Meanwhile, removing 45-kilometres of internal fencing and clearing fire breaks around the property’s perimeter has enhanced wildlife movement.

In establishing the Burns Carbon Project, Corporate Carbon worked with the state government and the First Nations native title holders to introduce a nature refuge at Ardgour Station, safeguarding the property's ecological and cultural values.
