CMI is excited to announce a new role as Member of the Consultative Committee for the recently formed global Taskforce for Scaling Voluntary Carbon Markets, to be led by Mark Carney.

In August 2020, a private-sector Taskforce on Scaling Voluntary Carbon Markets was established by the Institute for International Finance. The Taskforce has been convened to design a blueprint for scaling up the voluntary market, and in November it published its first set of 17 recommendations, which it has opened to public consultation until 10 December 2020. It has identified six key areas where efforts are required to achieve a large, transparent, verifiable and robust voluntary carbon market. The Taskforce has estimated that globally, voluntary carbon markets would need to grow at least 15-fold by 2030 to support levels of investment consistent with limiting global temperate rise to 1.5ºC.

CMI has been invited to join the Consultative Group of the Taskforce to provide advice and share its perspectives on scaling up voluntary carbon markets, and looks forward to engaging with the Taskforce as it progresses. The Taskforce will be releasing a detailed Roadmap in January 2021.
