EnergyAustralia is one of Australia’s leading energy retailers, providing gas and electricity to 1.7 million household and business customers in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory. Their generation portfolio has a bit of everything: coal, gas, wind and solar energy.
As an owner of large coal and gas-fired power stations, they recognise they have an obligation to lead the transition to cleaner forms of power.
Their approach involves supporting the development of lower-emissions, reliable energy while helping their customers manage their own consumption so they use less energy, generate less emissions and save money.
In December 2016, EnergyAustralia announced a $1.5 billion program to underpin new wind and solar projects across eastern Australia, a commitment which is supporting development of more than 500 megawatts (MW) of total, new capacity. They’re also investigating new cleaner-energy technologies, including a 225 MW seawater pumped hydro project in the Spencer Gulf of South Australia and an energy recovery project at the Mt Piper power station in New South Wales.
Many people want to do their bit to help the environment but don’t always have the financial means. So, in 2016 EnergyAustralia began offering their existing residential customers carbon neutral electricity. The Go Neutral program allows customers who opt-in to offset all the carbon emissions generated from the electricit they use, at no cost to them.
At EnergyAustralia they believe energy is vital to the health and wellbeing of people. “It’s our job to make sure everyone, no matter where they live or what they earn, has access to reliable, affordable and cleaner supplies”.
