Austral Fisheries, one of Australia’s largest commercial fishing companies has integrated sustainable management, science and conservation as core to its business, with its commitment demonstrated by gaining Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Carbon Neutral certification.
Austral Fisheries has been recognised for responsible and sustainable fishing practices in both deep-sea fishing and at sea prawning. The Austral Fisheries sustainability journey has grown since initially signing up to the Marine Stewardship Council in 1997 with full sustainability certification of their icefish, toothfish and prawn fisheries in 2012, and more recently, becoming certified as carbon neutral both as an organisation, and for the wild capture fish and prawn products they catch and sell.
They have achieved net zero carbon emissions through an emissions reduction strategy targeting business operations, and offsetting remaining emissions via a native reforestation program in WA through Carbon Neutral Pty Ltd whilst currently exploring Blue Carbon abatement projects.
