Carbon Market Institute CEO John Connor says this year’s survey of business sentiment relating to climate policy has seen “very strong reactions”.
“88 per cent of business respondents say back net zero by 2050, actually some even significantly earlier,” he told Sky News Australia.
“84 per cent think our current 2030 target needs strengthening.”
Mr Connor said policy and regulatory uncertainty is the “primary barrier” to investment.
“And so policy ambition and policy detail do matter if we’re going to get on with the opportunities in this transition,” he said.
It comes as the Coalition is negotiating climate policy as pressure builds on the Australian government to adopt a net zero by 2050 target ahead of the COP26 Climate Change conference in Glasgow.
