With renewed vigour in Australia’s carbon market, sophistication and expectations are emerging. The Clean Energy Regulator (CER) has called for expressions of interest to develop an Australian carbon exchange. The CER hopes “the development of an Australian carbon exchange will support industry by increasing market transparency including pricing, slashing transaction costs and reducing red tape, while accelerating emissions reduction and providing a boost to Australia’s economic recovery.” Market participants are looking for greater price discovery, as well as hedging and risk management. CMI Chair Elisa de Wit will discuss the carbon exchange proposal with the Chair of the CER David Parker, and moderate a discussion. Elisa will discuss this and other market developments with Les Hosking, FEX Global’s Group Executive Market Infrastructure (and CMI’s Foundation Chair). FEX Global recently became CMI’s 101st member!
