Policy Working Groups

CMI’s Policy Working Groups bring together Australia’s climate policy leaders and members of the business community that are invested in, and affected by policy changes across the economy.

Discussion of climate policy in this business context draws out business insights and provides necessary commentary around the immediate and long term effects of policy on the market.

Over the last two years, CMI has worked with policy makers and political leaders like Environment Minister Greg Hunt, Shadow Environment Minister Mark Butler, and findings from these sessions have allowed for a more collaborative and informed policy development process.

CMI has run Policy Working Group sessions in both Melbourne and Sydney, focusing most recently on development of the Emissions Reduction Fund and the Safeguard Mechanism; previous sessions have focused on assessment of:

  • Labor Party climate policy design
  • Coalition Direct Action Policy
  • National Carbon Offset Standard
  • Carbon Farming Initiative
  • Australia’s post-2020 emissions reduction target
