Poised to increase its influence and impact in the climate change and business space as a leading national industry association, the Carbon Market Institute is looking to recruit a General Manager.

The Carbon Market Institute (CMI) is passionate about helping business understand the challenges of climate change and seizing the opportunities in the transition to a zero carbon economy. Independent, constructive and authoritative, we have developed a unique role as a conduit to share knowledge and facilitate commercial interaction between business, policy makers and thought leaders to drive collective impact and create pragmatic solutions. The Institute’s membership represents a broad range of professionals, organisations and a cross section of industry. Collectively we have hundreds of years of expertise in climate change and carbon markets in our growing national membership.

Reporting to the CEO, the General Manager is a key management role in an organisation that operates across the spectrum of policy, markets, finance, technology and international climate developments. Leading a dedicated team and leveraging the resources of a talented, highly credentialed board the role will primarily involve strategic planning, operations management, and extensive stakeholder engagement with CMI members, the wider business community, federal and state politicians and key organisations that CMI collaborates with. Major initiatives the General Manager will work with the CEO and team on include: input into climate policy at the federal level, running the annual Australian Emissions Reduction Summit, facilitating members working groups, undertaking market research on international carbon markets and connecting business to opportunities at the state level.

It’s a diverse and exciting position. To be successful in this role, and to accelerate the aims of the organisation, you will have a deep exposure to climate change and business issues, strong familiarity with national climate policy and understand the relevance of international climate policy to Australian business. You will have worked in a corporate or commercial role and will be able to connect with and articulate the needs of business in the zero carbon transition that is underway. You will be confident and comfortable presenting and facilitating and ideally you would be Masters qualified with good networks across corporate Australia.
